In a thrilling matchup that kept fans on the edge of their seats, the Hershey Bears triumphed over the Cleveland Monsters with a close score of 3-2 on Saturday night. The victory was marked by pivotal contributions from players Bogdan Trineyev and Grant Cruikshank, who each played crucial roles in securing the win.
Trineyev ignited the excitement in the third period by netting his eighth goal of the season just 1 minute and 5 seconds into the frame. He received a no-look pass from his teammate Ivan Miroshnichenko while maneuvering along the boards. This set him up perfectly for a semi-breakaway, where he outmaneuvered Cleveland’s goaltender, Ivan Fedotov, with a skillful backhand shot that found the back of the net.
As he skated to celebrate his impressive goal, Trineyev was met by his roommate, Ilya Protas, who joyfully embraced him, shaking him by the shoulders in a moment of camaraderie and celebration.
However, the game took a turn when the Monsters managed to equalize with just 8 minutes and 15 seconds left on the clock. Luca Del Bel Belluz displayed remarkable patience as he navigated around Bears goaltender Clay Stevenson, scoring from the side of the net and bringing the score to 2-2.
But it was Cruikshank who emerged as the hero for the Bears’ faithful fans. During a power play for Cleveland, he showcased his speed by cutting sharply to the middle of the ice and firing a shot past Fedotov, marking a significant shorthanded goal that ultimately turned out to be the game-winner.
"We knew that the last five minutes were going to be tough," said Cruikshank, reflecting on the intense finish. "I won the draw, and it felt like their centerman wasn’t paying attention. We decided to push forward, and thankfully, [Schueneman] heard my call for a pass, and it all worked out from there."
This goal not only marked Cruikshank's third career shorthanded goal but also brought his season total to five. Impressively, he is on track to achieve personal bests in games played, goals scored, and overall points in the AHL this season.
