Nottingham Tram Route Closure: Essential Maintenance Work Ahead (2026)

Attention Nottingham residents! A crucial update regarding your city's tram network: A section of the beloved Clifton tram route is set to undergo essential maintenance, leaving commuters with a temporary detour. But here's where it gets controversial... the reason for this disruption is due to historic flooding damage. And this is the part most people miss: it's not just about the tram, it's about the resilience of our city's infrastructure.

Nottingham Express Transit (NET) has announced that on January 24th and 25th, all stops along the Clifton route, from Queens Walk to Clifton South Park & Ride, will be closed. NET plans to replace track ballast at Wilford Lane and perform maintenance along the Clifton line.

During this period, a temporary bus service will be in operation, ensuring commuters can still reach their destinations. Normal tram services are expected to resume on January 26th.

Additionally, a road closure at Wilford Lane will be necessary, with a diversion route in place for vehicles. Pedestrians, however, will have a designated path around the work site.

Sarah Turner, NET's Managing Director, encourages regular commuters to visit the dedicated maintenance page on the NET website for detailed information. She also invites any questions through the live chat function, emphasizing the importance of customer patience and cooperation during this maintenance period.

So, Nottingham, are you ready for this temporary change? What are your thoughts on the maintenance work and its impact on your daily commute? We'd love to hear your opinions and experiences. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below!
