PFL Madrid: Fabian Edwards set to clash with Costello van Steenis for the middleweight title
Britain’s Fabian Edwards will battle Costello van Steenis for the PFL middleweight championship in Madrid on March 20.
Edwards, 32, claimed the PFL middleweight tournament crown in August by stopping Dalton Rosta, earning a $500,000 prize.
This fight represents the Birmingham native’s third shot at a world title, following defeats in Bellator’s middleweight title bouts to Johnny Eblen in 2023 and 2024.
Dutch fighter Costello van Steenis, representing Spain, earned the lightweight title by submitting Eblen in July, securing the championship with just seven seconds remaining in the bout.
The upcoming bout will be van Steenis’s first defense of the title since the PFL rebranded it as the PFL World Championship after PFL’s acquisition of Bellator in 2023.
Both contenders come into the contest on three-fight win streaks, with van Steenis holding a 17-3-0 record in 20 pro bouts and Edwards at 16-4-0.
Madrid’s Palacio Vistalegre will host the event, marking the first global MMA promotion to stage a card in Spain.
“Costello van Steenis finished Cape Town with one of the sport’s most remarkable comebacks, and his journey continues in Madrid—carrying the Spanish flag on one shoulder and the world title on the other,” said PFL chief John Martin.
“Edwards is riding a powerful momentum, coming off a landmark victory in his previous bout to clinch the PFL tournament title. With these two leading the card, we’re planning a stacked night and an unforgettable event.”
